Chiropractic Q & A
Questions About Chiropractic Care
Our certified chiropractor answers common questions from our patients concerning chiropractic care, back pain and more:
How effective is chiropractic?
Chiropractic assists in removing imbalances and correcting misalignments in the body. Your body has the ability to heal itself, but needs to be functioning at its peak performance levels to be able to do so effectively. When spinal alignment is improved, the brain is able to easily and efficiently send signals to the rest of the body through the spine. When your nervous system is working at optimum levels, your health improves, and the symptoms of many conditions are alleviated or cured.
Why should I schedule a visit with a Chiropractor?
Chiropractors don't just treat neck and back pain. Diet, nutrition, whole body wellness, posture, and balance are all areas that chiropractors can assist you with. Conditions such as diabetes, fibromyalgia, and others are known to have been helped by chiropractic care. If you want to maintain your body and keep it functioning at maximum performance levels, chiropractic care is a great choice.
What is Subluxation?
In the chirporactic world, a subluxation is a term that describes when a vertebrae is misaligned. Subluxations can be caused by small injuries or large injuries. When vertebrae is subluxated, pressure is subsequently put on the nerves and blood vessels surrounding it. This in turn can cause pain and disrupt signals and pathways that are essential in transferring messages from the brain to other areas of the body.
How does chiropractic care work?
Chiropractic looks at the human body as a whole, instead of in divided areas. The basis of this outlook is from the idea that the body can heal itself. The spinal cord is the main pathway for the brain to send out signals to the rest of the body, which is essential when the body needs to resolve an issue such as a disorder or injury. If this system is not fully functional and performing at its peak, the entire body can be effected.
Chiropractors do not use drugs or medicine to treat a patient. We do consider supplementation and nutrition and we also take into account the overall diet and exercise routine of each patient as well. All of these are contributing factors to maintaining overall health.
It is a common misconception that chiropractors only help with neck and back pain. In fact, this is only a small part of what this profession truly handles. Aside from treating soft and hard tissue disorders, chiropractors handle many other conditions and diseases within the human body as well. Headaches, insomnia, poor posture, chronic pain, sports injuries and many other issues are effectively treated with chiropractic care regularly.
What are chiropractic adjustments? How safe are they?
Adjustments are often referred to as manipulations as well. This is when the vertebrae in the spine are moved slightly to put them in the most ideal and natural alignment possible. This in turn promotes proper function of the spine, which helps with self healing and allows the signals from the brain to flow freely into other areas of the body.
An adjustment can be performed using either pressure from your chiropractor, or from an instrument that is specially designed to move vertebrae into place. The motion is quick and painless. Usually you will hear a popping noise which is simply gas bubbles being released from the joint.
What can I expect from my chiropractic visit?
For many of us, visiting a chiropractor may be a new experience. Perhaps you have heard a positive recommendation from family or friends. Maybe you have looked up the benefits on the internet. You could also be experiencing persistent pain and want to find a way to reduce or eliminate it, but you also want to avoid surgery and dangerous medications. For your first visit, your chiropractor's main objective is to listen, learn about your past history, and hear about your goals for the future.
What results will I get from treatment?
Chiropractic promotes the overall wellbeing and self healing potential of the body by creating balance within the spine and other joints. This includes improvement of posture and correction of any misalignments. To maximize this effect, the spine must be free of any interruptions, such as compressed nerves or misaligned discs. Once your spine is functioning properly, the signals sent from your brain through your spine can achieve the best results to enhance the performance of the body.
When you suffer from an injury such as a car crash, sports mishap, or impact injury, it is likely that you may not be at your peak performance level due to misalignment. There are lots of structural and mechanical issues that can cause the body to be imbalanced, however, underlying chemical imbalances are common as well. Smoking or drinking in excess can allow underlying conditions to appear, as well as factors like poor diet and improper exercise.
Your chiropractor looks at your body as a whole. Everything is connected. Chemical issues can bring about physical issues and vice versa. Visit your chiropractor today to receive a thorough and complete assessment.
Mrs. Brown
Sergio really knows his stuff. He can take care of all your needs, be it chiropractic, dry needling, graston, or ART. He takes the extra time to find the source of the problem instead of just treating the symptoms. With over 12 years of experience, it shows.
